Kyiv Region: Places of Memory

During the tragic events of February and March 2022, Kyiv Region became a witness to brutal battles and destruction caused by Russian forces. The war crimes committed by the occupiers have left numerous scars on the region, which will serve as painful reminders for years to come. The project “Kyiv Region: Places of Memory” aims to preserve the memory of these events and reveal the truth to the world that cannot be ignored.

Residential Complex “Irpin Lipki”

In February and March 2022, Irpin became a symbol of resistance against Russian aggression. Russian forces carried out numerous airstrikes on the city, destroying peaceful homes. One of these places was the “Irpin Lipki” residential complex, which found itself at the epicenter of intense battles. At that time, 70% of the city was destroyed, and many civilians lost their lives. This event will forever remain a testament to the barbarity of the Russian invaders.

Car Cemetery

Damaged and shattered cars, once used for daily life, have now become a grim reminder of fierce battles. Vehicles used during evacuation attempts were shot at and destroyed. This site serves as a symbol of the pain and loss endured by the city of Irpin during its heroic defense in February-March 2022.

Central House of Culture, Irpin

Built in 1954, the Central House of Culture was destroyed by Russian artillery in March 2022. Before the war, it was the heart of cultural life in Irpin, hosting numerous artistic groups. Despite the destruction, the building has become a symbol of the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian culture.

Romanivsky Bridge

Destroyed early in the war, Romanivsky Bridge became the “Road of Life” for many residents of Irpin. It was the only escape route, often under enemy fire, for civilians trying to flee the battlefield. The destroyed bridge has since become one of the most recognized symbols of this war.

Taras Shevchenko Square, Borodyanka

During the occupation, Borodyanka suffered some of the worst destruction in the Kyiv region. Multi-story buildings were bombed, and many people died under the rubble. The Taras Shevchenko Monument, shot and destroyed on March 2, 2022, has become a worldwide symbol of the occupiers’ hatred towards Ukrainian culture.

Village of Moshchun

Moshchun became the last barrier on the path of the Russian army to Kyiv. Local defenders bravely fought to protect every inch of land, organizing a defense against a much larger enemy force. This village stands as a testament to the extraordinary bravery of Ukrainian soldiers who saved the capital from invasion.

The “Kyiv Region: Places of Memory” project uses cutting-edge technology, including AR, to recreate key defense locations and preserve the memory of the heroic resistance and tragedies that unfolded in the region. The world must know this truth to ensure that such crimes are never repeated.

Don’t Look Away.
