Ukrainian forces blew up the bridge over the Irpin River on February 25, 2022, to impede the advancement of the Russian army towards Kyiv. Afterward, the bridge became one of the few opportunities for the residents of Kyiv Oblast’s settlements, where active combat took place, to seek safety.
People sought shelter under the ruined bridge to protect themselves from Russian airstrikes and artillery shelling. Photographs from this place were seen by the whole world.
