The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Borodianka has become one of the most famous among over a thousand dedicated to him around the world.
The monument was erected in the central square of the town, also named in honor of the kobzar, in August 1992. The bust was crafted from leaf-shaped forged copper using embossing techniques based on the design by sculptor and member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Mykola Mishchuk, and art historian A. Krayniev. In 2008, the monument was placed on a new marble pedestal, on which the following words were carved:
“Love your Ukraine.
Love her… in a fierce time,
In the last, difficult moment,
pray to the Lord for her”
In the spring of 2022, Russian forces fired upon the monument with small arms, damaging both the pedestal and the bust itself.
The work on 3D digitization was performed by Yaroslav Vepriev (MrUnity).
